Symmetry

What is symmetry

  • The different types of symmetry are translation symmetry, rotational symmetry, reflection symmetry and glide symmetry.
  • Symmetry is an important part of design principles because it shows the reflection and another point of view of a shape or building being reflected.
  • Symmetry is a visual balance by arranging different elements of a picture to mirror each other or follow a pattern.
  • It also shows us different ways to merge shapes to make symmetry look even more interesting.

Analysing picture

This image uses symmetry that is very simple so that humans can remember the image. People recognise this all over the world.

Repeat and Rotate

For this symmetry image I chose a nice scenery background photo and i duplicated it and I flipped one of them so it was symmetrical. I flipped it 180 degrees so that it would look like there were two reflections in the water and that it would be really cool to look at. I then blended the water bit so it looked even more better and finally I did the gradient that was used in the photo so that the background looked really good.

Kaleidoscope

For this symmetry design I had to choose some interesting buildings and structures to blend them together so that they would look like one long building. I did this by using a lasso tool to cut out the bit of the building that would look the best. I then selected all of the layers and merged them together so that I could move them around in one go. After that I made them go in a circle and merged them together and I did that over and over again shrinking the size of them every time. To add more to it I coloured the building at the top a different colour and made a gradient going from the middle to the end making a circle gradient.
